According to the first quarter data for mobile phone market share released by Gartner, Android has emerged victorious over Windows Mobile. Bear in mind the fact that we are talking about the market share at the global level, so this is a worthy achievement for Google.
While Android has beaten Microsoft’s mobile OS in the market share race it still stands behind iPhone. iPhone has grabbed the third spot with the first spot going to Symbian and the second spot going to RIM. Android is sitting pretty at the fourth spot. But don’t be surprise if you find it outperforming major mobile platforms by the 1Q of 2011.These stats confirm what was expected previously, Windows Mobile is dying until and unless Windows Phone 7 can do something about it. It is safe to say that Microsoft will continue the down slide journey at-least for this year. Let us see if Microsoft can manage to come out of this hole as winners.
